MISSION STATEMENT

"Our mission is our member’s financial success, our goal is to simplify their lives, our focus is one member at a time."

The History of Shoreline Credit Union
Shoreline Credit Union (SCU) began its existence as the Hamilton Employees Credit Union in 1941. It was formed by a small group of employees from the Hamilton Manufacturing Company of Two Rivers, Wisconsin. As was typical in those days, volunteers operated the credit union on a part-time basis, and its location was a used desk and file cabinet in the corner of the Personnel Department.

During the next two decades as it grew, it moved out of the sponsor's offices to a nearby downtown rented upper office flat and then in turn into a small retail storefront. With the expansion of its charter to a community basis, and because of ongoing growth, it moved from the downtown area into a full-service facility built on the corner of Mishicot Road & Tannery on the north side of Two Rivers in 1979. Some twenty years later, in October 1999, it opened a second facility, overlooking Lake Michigan, on the south side of Two Rivers on the corner of Memorial Drive & Columbus Street.

Our Philosophy as a Financial Cooperative
Credit unions are member owned financial cooperatives. They trace their history back to the 1800's in Europe to rural villages wherein residents, unable to obtain loans at reasonable rates or at all, banded together to pool savings to lend to each other. Although a few credit unions were formed in the United States in the early 1900's, the movement did not really get started until the 1930's after Congress passed the 1931 Credit Union Act.

To this day, regardless of membership base or size, the core mission of all credit unions is serve the under served. The best way to describe the philosophy of the credit movement is by quoting a statement used by credit unions in their literature throughout the world since the beginnings of the movement: "Not for profit, not for charity, but for service".
